John served as a Sergeant, 124th Infantry Regiment, 31st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.
He resided in Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland prior to the war.
He was drafted into the Army and reported for duty on May 29, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended his training at Camp Polk, LA. After training he was sent to the South Pacific. Island hopped to take Japanese held islands.
John was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Clusters. His first Purple Heart was for being wounded in the Solomons Islands.
