He was the pilot of a B-17E, the "Naughty but Nice", Serial #41-2430 that was shot down by the Japanese in WWII. He was assigned to the 65th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group. His remains were reburied 21 September 2011 after being identified by DNA and dental records along with eight fellow U. S. Army Air Force crew members, all in a single casket. His name is also shown on a cenotaph at Manilla American Cemetery and Memorial in Manilla City, Philippines.
