He served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on C-46A # 41-12397, India-China Wing, Air Transport Command, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Allen County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 1, 1942 in La Fayette, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Baker and also as Single, without dependents.

C-46A # 41-12397 took off, with a crew of 4, from Chengking, China on a cargo mission to Mohanbari, India. After departing from Chengking they were not seen nor heard from again. The entire crew was lost.

John was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

Service # O-671806

John also has a "Cenotaph" in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
