The Covina Argus-Citizen, Covina, California, Friday, August 17, 1945, Page Fifteen:
WITH ASIATIC FLEET: JACK BLAINE OVERCASH
Missing for over three years, Jack Blaine Overcash is known to have taken part in the battle engagement of the USS Pillsbury near the strait of Bali, known as the battle of Java. During the past three years the navy has reviewed his case several times and have found nothing to indicate that his status should be changed.
Jack was trained in elementals at the San Diego naval base, and joined task forces on the USS Mississippi at Pearl Harbor about July 1, 1940. He cruised south of the equator, and during this trip, with his gun crew was awarded the coveted "Navy E." He volunteered for service with the Asiatic fleet and was assigned to the destroyer Pillsbury, at that time in Manila Bay.
Jack's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Wright Overcash.
