Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until September 9, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Brother of Mrs. Pauline L. Newfer who resided in Los Angeles, California.

Charles served as a Sergeant & Radio Operator on C-46A #42-61054, 2nd Air Transport Squadron (Mobile), U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Los Angeles County, California prior to World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1943 in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Married.

C-46A #42-61054 took off, with a crew of 5, from Kalaikunda, India on a Cargo Mission to Chengtu, China. They were contacted once by radio over Lalmonirhat Airbase, India. It was noticed during this radio contact that they were off course due to high winds in the area. They were not seen nor heard from again and are believed to have crashed into a mountain.

Charles was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He had previously been awarded the Air Medal.
