William served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-25J #43-36150, 823th Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 25, 1944 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.
B-25J #43-36150 took off from Lingayen Air Strip, Luzon, Philippines on a strike mission in the Gulf of Tonkin, off Hainan island, China. They were hit by either ground anti-aircraft fire or were hit by Japanese aircraft which knocked out one of their engines. The crashed into the sea with no survivors.
William was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
