He was believed to have actually been executed on the above date, however he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 24, 1946.

Some reports note the execution was possibly on December 9, 1943.

Ernest served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-17E "Texas #6" #41-9207, 64th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Nassau County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 30, 1941, prior to the war, in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Single, without dependents.

Ernest was first declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17E, while on a mission, was attacked by Japanese zeros and crashed in East New Britain, Papua New Guinea during the war.

He became a POW of the Japanese Army on June 1, 1943 which was the date of his B-17 crashing.

Ernest, along with S/Sgt Paul J. Cascio, was taken to a POW camp in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea.

On November 25, 1943 Ernest, along with 11 other POW's were removed from Rabaul and were told they were being taken to another POW camp in Japan.

They were, however, all "executed" in late November or early December, 1943!

His remains were not recovered.

He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross", Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.
