He resided in Bexar County, Texas & was a member of the Texas National Guard prior to the war.
His National Guard unit was called into full time active Army service on November 25, 1940, prior to the war, from San Antonio, Texas. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a flower grower and also as Single, without dependents.
B-25D #41-30185 took off on a bombing mission over Cape Moem near Wewak, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. An eyewitness noticed that 3 bombs dropped by a B-25 ahead of them exploded near their B-25 which possibly caused them to become damaged and they crashed on Mum Point, Cape Moem during the war. The remains of the crew have never been found.
Clifton was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
