Son of Dirk Ruyter and Emma M. Heller Ruyter.

Edward, who resided at 412 North Bradford Street, Dover, Delaware, served as a 2nd Lieutenant and bombardier with the 741st Bomber Squadron, 455th Bomber Group, Fifteenth Air Force, U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He enlisted in the Army on August 12, 1941 in Dover, Delaware. He was noted as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as being Single, without dependents.

He was "Killed In Action" when the bomber he was flying on shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire over Bleiburg, Austria during the war.

He had served in the Air Corps for three years and two months at the time of his death and was decorated with an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
