Son of Joseph Dawson and Rachel C Booker of Burnt House, Speldhurst, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Charles was a British fighter ace credited with 29 victories. He was promoted to high rank while relatively young as a result of his gallantry and given command of the RAF 201 Squadron in March 1918, just short of his 21st Birthday. He was shot down by Jasta 12's ace, Leutnant Ulrich Neckel on 13 August 1918. He had claimed 29 victories; he shared in the capture of 2 enemy airplanes; destroyed 10, including 6 victories shared with other pilots and drove down 17 'out of control', including 5 shared wins.
Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.
