Levi Banks Cobb was the son of Alexander (Sanders) Cobb and Ruth Banks Cobb. In about 1772, Alexander Cobb was born in South Carolina, and in about 1855, he died in Bibb County, Alabama. On 4 August 1782, Ruth Banks was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina, and in 1821, she died in Bibb County, Alabama. Alexander Cobb lived in Edgefield County, South Carolina and later in Bibb County, Alabama.

On 10 October 1841, Levi Banks Cobb and Amanda Davenport were married in Bibb County, Alabama. The children of Levi and Amanda were Williamson Webster Cobb, George Newton Cobb, James F. Cobb, Alexander A. Cobb (twin of James F. Cobb), Laura Montree Cobb Stripling, Mary Ann Cobb King, Levi Rufus Cobb, Susannah J. Cobb Houser, Alpine Beauregard Cobb, Victoria Alabama Cobb Taunton Houser and Washington Lafayette Cobb.

Alexander "Sanders" Cobb, Levi's father, was in the War of 1812. Alexander Cobb was the stepson of Simon Gentry. Simon Gentry was the grandfather of Amanda Davenport Cobb, wife of Levi Banks Cobb.
