Theodule Sonnier was the son of Jean Baptiste Sonnier and Marie Clemence Breaux. He married Marie Valerine Leger, daughter of Augusin Leger and Marie Emerante Meche, on April 19, 1842 in Lafayette.

Served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. Enlisted in Co K 18th Infantry- Louisiana
