Son of Mrs. Mary Barnousky who resided in Pittston, Pennsylvania.

John served as a Staff Sergeant & Top Turret Gunner on B-24J "Edith" #44-48789, 759th Bomber Squadron, 459th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 10, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Stock clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-24J, while on a mission to bomb the Isarca Flack Alze railroad bridge in northern, Italy was hit by enemy flak and crashed in Italy during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
