Lilbert served as a Technical Sergeant & Radar Operator on B-17 "Miss Mary Kay" (#43-38131), 848th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Caldwell County, Kentucky prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 3, 1943 in Evansville, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a linemen and also as Married.

Lilbert was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was shot down by German Flak boats in the harbor of Middelharnis, Netherlands during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
