Robert served as a Staff Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-24H #41-29292, 705th Bomber Squadron, 446th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 17, 1942 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a routemen and also as Single, without dependents.

Robert was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was shot down by enemy fighters and crashed South East of Fuhrberg-Hanover, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Service # 13067988

Robert's brother, CPL Edwin W. Micken<, also died during the war as a POW.

Robert & Edwin both have a "Cenotaph" in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, Pennsylvania with their family.
