On January 11, 1944 he was on the crew of the B-17F #42-29894 "Baltimore Bounce" during a mission to bomb the Focke-Wulf aviation plant at Oschersleben, Germany. They were attacked by fighters on the return trip. One wing came off, they rolled over and exploded. They crashed near Lippen, Germany. There were no survivors.
