From the Crookston Daily Times - Sept 1943

Word has been received that Selmer Okstad PhM 1CL, son of Marie Johnson, formerly of Gonvick, has been killed in action with the Navy. He was among 100 crew members killed when an American ship, the Savannah, was hit by a torpedo. He was buried at sea.
