As Corporal Yves Gouin was a gunner with Lt. Johnson crew on "Operation Tidal Wave" the low level Ploesti raid to destroy Romanian oil refineries. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, for valor.

B 24 41-11896 with pilot 1st/Lt. Julian M. Bleyer, and a different crew flew the Ploesti raid "Operation Tidal Wave" one of the most daring raids of WW2. B24 41-11896 successfully returned to base in Libya.
