John served as a Staff Sergeant & Ball Turret Gunner on B-17 "Miss Carriage" #42-3083, 429th Bomber Squadron, 2nd Bomber Group, Heavy, during World War II.
He resided in New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on June 19, 1942 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in a semiprofessional occupation and also as Married.
John was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was shot down by enemy aircraft and crashed in the Mediterranean during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
