Silvio was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17, while returning from a bombing mission to Bremen, Germany, was hit by enemy flak which caused explosions on his plane and the pilot lost all control due to the damage.
The "Holy Mackeral" ended up running into B-17 (#42-30860) causing them to crash into the Wadden Sea (North Sea). The "Holy Mackeral" also ended up in a crash landing at Kimewerd, South of Harlingen, Holland.
