David served as a Staff Sergeant & Top Turret Gunner on B-24H (#42-52105), 714th Bomber Squadron, 448th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hamilton County, Indiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 14, 1941, prior to the war, at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a structural and ornamental metal worker and also as Single, without dependents.

David was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24, after being damaged on a bombing mission to Germany, crashed into the North Sea during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
