Ellick served as a Staff Sergeant & Left Waist Gunner on B-17G #42-38075, 331st Bomber Squadron, 94th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cambria County, Pennsylvania prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 4, 1942 in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Semiskilled routemen and also as Single, without dependents.

Ellick was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 collided with B-17G #42-31112 and crashed near Itzeho, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
