He took part in extensive training for the Army Air Forces and received his wings and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. After a brief period spent at the Advanced Flying School at Stockton Field, California, he was sent to England as a heavy bomber pilot in the Eighth Army Air Force. Shortly before his death, he wrote home that he had completed his 17th mission and he said he looked forward hopefully to completing 25 missions after which he expected a furlough home.
On February 25, 1944 Lt. Mosier took part in a massive offensive mounted by planes from England and Italy, with the primary target being the Messerschmitt factory at Regensburg. He was killed when the B-17 was fired upon and he was killed at his co-pilot seat. The pilot was able to return the damaged plane to its base in England.
A memorial service was held for him in his home of Ogdensburg NY in June of 1944. A cenotaph was put in place in the cemetery where his father was buried, while his remains were returned to England for burial.
