Sgt. John F. Johnson was a B-17 tail gunner with the 734th Bomb Squadron of the 453rd Bomb Group. On April 11, 1944, he was on a training flight with Pilot: Myron Richmond, Co-pilot: John Kenney, Navigator: Gus Horstmann, Bombardier: Bob Keagy, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Lester Cutler, Radio Operator: Walter George, Ball turret gunner: Chas Lewis, Waist gunner: Cornelius Robinson, Tail gunner: Ray Lilly. When the mission was aborted the ship suddenly dove and crashed on a Royal Airbase at Eye, beside A140 Ipswich-Norwich Rd in England. There were no survivors.
