GERARD GAREAU KILLED IN SOUTH PACIFIC
Mrs. Henry, 406 West A Street, who was only recently told by the United States War Department that her son, SSgt. Reuben Gareau, missing since October 18, 1943, is now believed dead & that her grandson, Sgt. Gerard John Gareau, United States Marines & former Detroit, Michigan resident, was killed September 24 in action in the South Pacific.
SSgt. Reuben Gareau, tall gunner on a Liberator bomber was with the Army Air Force in the European Theater when he was reported missing in action.
His family was told that the only information available was that the Liberator, on which SSgt. Gereau was serving, crippled by enemy rockets, disappeared in a cloud bank about 60 miles off the coast of Holland over the North Sea, pursued by about 60 enemy fighters. No trace of the bomber or its crew was ever found.
Mrs. Gereau makes her home with her daughter, Miss Emily Gereau.
