George served as a Staff Sergeant & Left Waist Gunner on B-24J "Bottle Baby" #44-40169, 856th Bomber Squadron, 492nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in St. Louis, Missouri prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 28, 1942 at Jefferson Barrack's, Missouri. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, without dependents.

George was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was attacked by German Aircraft and was shot down and crashed into the Baltic Sea during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
