Raymond served as a Private First Class, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Rutland County, Vermont prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army on March 15, 1943 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Single, without dependents.
He was lost in the bombing and sinking of the troop ship HMT Rohna. He has a cenotaph in the plot of his parents, Raymond J. and Laura B. (Owens) Mainville, at Saint Josephs Cemetery in Rutland, Vermont.
