LeRoy served as a Staff Sergeant on B-24D "Jack Pot" #42-40280, 321st Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Campbell County, Kentucky prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 14, 1940, prior to the war, at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in printing and publishing and also as Single, without dependents.

LeRoy was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 collided with another B-24, while attempting to land, after an aborted bombing mission to Rabaul. The entire crew was killed in an explosion due to their full bomb load upon impact. The other B-24, badly damaged, managed to land without any fatalities.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Australia and was later repatriated here on January 24, 1949.
