Billy Don Coonce, 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday, April 29, 2010.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St., Parkville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Robinson Funeral Home, 601 N. Henry Clay Blvd., Ashland. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg.
He was born to John Cleveland "Cleve" and Mary Etta Coonce on Nov. 3, 1931, on the family farm in Callaway County. Following graduation from Ashland High School in 1949, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in England during the Korean War. He married Priscilla Anne Middleton on Dec. 31, 1953, and they had three children. In 1956, Bill graduated from the University of Colorado—Boulder. He was employed at TWA from 1959 until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed traveling throughout the world with his family. Bill bought his father's first farm in 1969 and lovingly managed it for wildlife throughout the remainder of his life. Many of his fondest memories of family and friends took place there.
He is survived by two children, Kim Lawson and Curt Coonce (Charmaine); 5 grandchildren, Brian Lawson, Emily Dodgson, Daniel Coonce, James Coonce and Erika Geer; his ex-wife and friend, Priscilla Coonce; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Crystal Anne Dodgson.
