George W. Hearn, who was regarded one of the prominent citizens of this parish, died at the home of his son, I. A. Hearn of West Monroe last Thursday, after an illness of about two weeks' duration. Mr. Hearn was removed from his home at this place to Monroe to be under special medical care in that city.

Mr. Hearn was a native of Jackson parish, where he served as police jury member for several years; he came to Columbia and Caldwell parish about eight years ago and purchased property here. Shortly afterwards he acquired a farm on the east side of the Ouachita river, on what is known as the "Island". Mr. Hearn was regarded one of the most successful farmers in this parish, making his farm, which he purchased without mortgaging it, pay for itself.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mollie Hearn, and the following five children: Mrs. L. E. Rogers, of Cotton Plant; I. A. Hearn and G. W. Hearn, Jr. of West Monroe, J. E. Hearn of Olla, and Mrs. E. C. Uttner.

Funeral services were conducted at the Columbia Methodist church Friday afternoon and interment was made in the Columbia cemetery Saturday morning, the services Friday afternoon being interrupted by a heavy downpour of rain.
