Matherville, Ill., May 18. - John Adams, mine manager for Alden Coal Co., at Matherville, dropped dead while at work yesterday. He was born on a farm near Carbon Cliff, September 22, 1851, and grew to manhood there. He was married in Geneseo on December 22, 1875, to Miss Eliza Ann Howell, and she survives with five children, George and Mrs Jennie Jones of Matherville, Mrs Maud Smith and Mrs Grace Turner of Gilchrist and Mrs Jessie Voss of Viola; one brother, George Adams, of Moline, and four sisters, Mrs John Grieves, Mrs Joseph Cook, Mrs Hattie Bloomquist and Mrs Hannah Ellingsworth of Moline. The funeral will be held at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the M. E. church, with the Rev. Mr Geddings officiating. Odd Fellows' lodge, No. 997, of Matherville will have care of the services. Burial will be in Farlow Grove cemetery at Matherville.
