Altamont, Dec. 15: Melvin W. Becker, 81, retired miller and one of this village's oldest resident, died late last night at his Main street home after a long illness. He had lived here since 1921.
Mr. Becker was born at Central Bridge, November 3, 1857, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Becker. He married Miss Edith I. Young of East Worcester June 28, 1882. For 34 years he conducted a milling business at Berne.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, durand Becker of Snyder, Dr. DeForest Becker of Brooklyn and William I. Becker of this village; one daughter, Miss Flora Becker, this villge; one brother, Dr. Leroy Becker of cobleskill; five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Burhans of cobleskill, Mrs. Frank L. Casper of Howes Cave and Mrs. Henry Whalen of Brooklyn, and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. H. Curtis Ficken, pastor of the Reformed church of thish Mr. Becker was a member, conducted funeral services Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fredendall funeral home. Burial was in Knox cemetery, Albany county.
