Citation: The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to John J. Coyne (16146105), Technician Fifth Grade, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action and disregard for personal safety while serving with Troop A, 4th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), in action against the enemy on 20 December 1944, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Coyne's outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself and the United States Army.Headquarters, VII Corps, General Orders No. 8 (March 8, 1945)
