R. Spence, Beatrice, Dies Here

Beatrice (AP) - Robin A. Spence, 68, of rural Beatrice, an Angus breeder and former extension agent in Gage and Dakota counties, died in a Lincoln hospital Friday night.

He had suffered a coronary attack a few house earlier in the State Capitol.

Spence had gone to Lincoln to testify before legislative committees, and was stricken after his appearances.

A native of Crab Orchard and a graduate of the University of Nebraska, Spence served with the extension service 30 years, 13 with the state extension staff, five as county agent in Dakota County, and 12 years as extension agent in Gage County. He retired in 1963.

He devoted his time after retirement to Angus breeding activities.

Spence was a former president and vice president and director of the Nebraska Angus Breeders Assn. and served as president of the Nebraska County Agents Assn.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David of Juneau, Alaska, John of Lincoln, and Robin of Beatrice; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Peters of Lincoln, Mrs. James Tiemann, Linda and Elizabeth Spence, both of Beatrice; a brother, the Rev. Willard Spence of Taos, N.M.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice.
