Simon P. Lee, who repaired shoes for Blytheville's earliest residents, their children and grandchildren, died early last night at Walls Hospital. He was 66.

Death believed caused by a heart attack, came to this 66-year-old longtime resident as he was making plans again for truck farming, a hobby which he loved. Long in ill health, he had been in hospitals at intervals in the past several years but had seemed improved and recently was able to be up. He died at 6:45 o'clock after being moved to the hospital several hours before.

Establishing a shoe repair business here when he came to Blytheville 45 years ago, he also owned a retail shoe store here for a number of years. He operated his shop on South Second Street between Main and Ash. For many years he had been very interested in growing food and while he sold much of his truck crops, he also was very generous in his gifts to friends and to the needy. He long owned an acreage near Maple Grove Cemetery and in recent years had developed an acreage north of Blytheville.

Born in Lonoke, Ark., he was reared in Memphis where he resided before coming to Blytheville.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock at Cobb Funeral Home by the Rev. E. G. Brown, pastor of the First Baptist Church, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Ratcliff Lee; one son, S. P. Lee Jr. of Memphis, who is here; four daughters, Miss Jewel Lee, Miss Pearl Lee, Mrs. H. C. Walls and Mrs. Anna Lee Holt, all of Blytheville; a brother, D. R. Lee of Memphis and two sisters, Mrs. Alex Boggiano of Memphis and Mrs. Will Davis of Mason, Tenn.

Married Bertha May Ratcliff on March 6, 1904 in Arkansas.
