Minor granddaughter of General José de San Martín. In 1861 she married to Mexican diplomat Fernando Mariano de los Dolores Vicente Jacinto Cleofás Gutiérrez Estrada y Gómez Cortina, without offspring. In 1895, after a request from the National Historical Museum director of Argentina, donates the furniture in the house where his grandfather died, to be exhibited permanently in Buenos Aires. Shortly after the death of her husband, she created in Brunoy the "Foundation Balcarce and Gutierrez de Estrada" to give shelter and food to those in need. During the First World War, that place was converted into a hospital, where they attended French and German soldiers alike. After the war, France awarded her the Legion of Honor. As a tribute, one of the main streets of Brunoy bears his name.
