Charles Elihu Quinn was born in Windham County, Vermont to Ransom E. Quinn and Sophia Martha Pratt of Marlboro, VT. He enlisted in the Union Army at Savoy, Mass on January 28, 1862, where he joined Company A, 31st Regiment Infantry. His unit was en route to New Orleans,LA via steamboat when some cargo broke loose, breaking Charles' ankle. He was discharged early from his duties and walked with a limp for the remainder of his life due to this.

Charles was a farmer. He married Delilah King in 1867 in Illinois after the war. Delilah's parents were Stacy King and Elizabeth Bowser. Her ancestry was primarily Swiss-German Mennonites, who originally settled in southeastern Pennsylvania. Her grandfather, Mathias König (King) immigrated from Großgartach, Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Prussia (now in Germany). Mathias Bausser (Bowser), her maternal grandfather, was from Pfalz, Bayern, Prussia (Germany).

By 1880 Charles and Delilah had moved to Salt Creek Township in Reno Co., Kansas. I have their children listed as Lucy Jane Quinn (my great-great grandmother), Nellie C., Mary and Frank Quinn. Delilah died in 1912, and Charles remarried to Laura C. Pittman on Nov. 18, 1914 in Hutchinson and to Almeda Mueller on Feb, 24, 1921. Charles died in 1926 in Hutchinson, KS.

Charles' has a very interesting ancestry on his both sides of his parentage. He has three lines of ancestry from Edmund Freeman (#6127309), founder of Sandwich, MA and Assistant Colonial Governor of Plymouth Colony under William Bradford. He was twice descended from spiritual elder, William Brewster (#16195888) and his wife, Mary (#34836091) of the Mayflower. Twice descended from Thomas Prence (#7497193), who was the 4th, 8th & 12th Colonial Governor of Plymouth Colony. Also from Edward Bompasse (#87130917), who came over with Thomas Prence on the next ship after the Mayflower, named "Fortune"(my family also has ancestry from him through the Curless family). He was also a descendant of Thomas Hobart (#51598173), son of Edmund Hobart (#34697261), founder of Hingham. MA and Deacon Samuel Chapin (#7153097), co-founder of Springfield, MA. The Pratts on his mother's side descended from Joshua Pratt, who emigrated from England to Plymouth Colony in 1623 on the ship "Anne".
