Death: 1888
Macon County
Missouri, USA

Caroline Elizabeth (Woodward) Richardson was this writer's paternal great grandmother through her youngest daughter Meda, then through Meda's son Tom Roy Dennis. Caroline was born in Massachusetts, but the name of her parents have been lost to history.

The first that is known about her is when she married in about 1855 to Stephen Calvin Richardson who was also born in Massachusetts. In the 1850 census, Stephen was 18 years old, living with his parents and siblings in Sylvester, Green County, Wisconsin. I believe Caroline & Stephen's marriage occurred in that state, although no record can presently be found.

Their first child was born in May, 1856 in the state of Wisconsin. They continued to live in Wisconsin until after the birth of their 7th child. Stephen Calvin Richardson served in the Civil War as a private in Company K 22nd Wisconsin Infantry from August 15, 1862 to May 15 1863.

After the war, the Richardsons moved south to Missouri. They first settled in Adair County and later moved on to Macon County.

Caroline and Stephen had a total of 10 known children:

Caroline Rosamond Richardson 1857
Mary Adeline Richardson 1859
Stephen C. Richardson 1860
Francis Marion Richardson 1861
Henry Lewis Richardson 1864 1945
John Everett Richardson 1865
Iva Bell Richardson 1867
Marquis Lafayette Richardson 1871
Rev. Ona Hull Richardson 1874 1942
Meda June Richardson 1877 1950

Caroline died in 1888 and was buried at the Shirley Cemetery near Elmer, Missouri, apparently without a stone. Her husband Stephen lived another 19 years. On December 31, 1902, he married Lucy E. (Reeder) (Dennis) (Varvil), the mother of his daughter Meda's husband, Chester Dennis. Stephen died in 1907 and was buried beside Caroline, and I am told that he does have a stone with the inscription of his nickname "Salvin."

- Written by Blytha (Dennis) Ellis, daughter of Tom Roy Dennis who was the son of Meda June (Richardson) Dennis, who was the daughter of Stephen Calvin and Caroline (Woodward) Richardson.
