The son of Louis Mager and Clara Bellamy, George was a private with an Illinois Provost Guard Company during World War I.

After the War, George married Emma Zigrang on 06 Apr 1920 in Calhoun County, Illinois. She died in 1922.

Children from first marriage: None known.

George then married Lillian M. Funk on 02 Feb 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri. They were the parents of 1 child.

George operated a barber shop in Madison County for many years until his retirement in 1966.

Lillian was a registered nurse at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. She was in charge of central supply at the hospital and retired in 1973.

George was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge. He also belonged to Grace Methodist Church in Alton.

George was in poor health for the last 4 years of his life. On 31 Jan 1967, he went to the home of his sister, Ada "Lois" Squier, west of Hardin in Calhoun County, Illinois to do some fishing. He was later found dead in his car.

The coroner determined that George had probably suffered a heart attack after getting in his automobile to drive to his sister's home for lunch.

At the time of his death, George was 71 years, 2 months and 4 days old. He was survived by his second wife, Lillian; 1 son, George N. Mager of Godfrey; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother, Fred Mager of Kampsville; and 2 sisters, Elma Sievers and Ada Squier, both of Hardin.

Visitation was was held after 6 p.m. on 01 Feb 1967 at Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services were conducted there at 1 p.m. the following afternoon.

George's second wife, Lillian, passed away in 1992.
