The son of Thomas Jefferson "Tom" Douglass and Eliza Jane Turner, George married Ida Cornelia Plummer on 16 Feb 1887 in Calhoun County, Illinois. He was a farmer, and they were the parents of at least 4 children.

George and Ida lived in Missouri during the early years of their marriage. All 4 of their children were born there, but the family returned to Calhoun County by 1900.

George and his wife suffered from declining health in their later years. In December 1945, the 2 were both invalids and moved from their home in Batchtown to Normal, Illinois where they lived with their son, Thomas.

At the time of his death, George was 85 years, 1 month and 18 days old. He was survived by his wife, Ida; 3 daughters, Mae Richmond of LaGrange, Illinois, Inez Olson of California, and Oma Aleshire of Washington; and 1 son, Thomas of Normal, Illinois. Thomas was a professor at Normal University.

Visitation was held at the Douglass home in Batchtown on 07 Feb 1946. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. the following afternoon at the Methodist Church in Batchtown.

George's wife, Ida, passed away in 1948 and was buried next to him.
