Born in Atkinson, NC, Jo was one of six children born to Walter Albert Corbett and Bertha Barefoot Corbett. She was preceded in death by her husband Gilliam King Horton.
Surviving are her daughter Marcia Alice Horton of Rocky Point, NC; her son Gilliam King Horton, Jr. and wife Anna Liese of Burlington, NC; her grandson Gilliam King Horton, III (Trey); her sister Elsie Corbett Hatch of Wilmington, NC, and 31 nieces and nephews.
Jo graduated from New Hanover High School in 1938 and received her bachelor degree in home economics from Greensboro College. She taught school in Southport, NC for the next two years. Afterwards, she was employed by Plate Ice Company in Wilmington, NC. In 1946, she and Gilliam were married and began their family.
Jo always loved to travel. She and Gilliam were fortunate to go to Europe several times with friends, and with Governor Dan K. Moore and the NC Board of Conservation and Development to go pheasant hunting in Czechoslovakia. They were both members of the NCSU Wolfpack Club and went on many university sponsored trips during football season. Jo and her daughter especially enjoyed traveling with the Tauck Tour Company during the fall of the year. They went to sites in the Western United States and in the New England Region including Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Canyon, and Park City, Utah, where they watched the US Olympic team train for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. They also toured Las Vegas, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, Washington, DC, and numerous adventures in the Northeast during the leaf peeping season.
Jo belonged to the Cape Fear Country Club, The Surf Club, and was an honorary member of Cape Fear Garden Club. She enjoyed flower arranging and admired Ikebana. She was an avid bridge player and always looked forward to a "bridge day with the girls:. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Jo was a loving mother, sister, and an encouragement to all who knew her. She always enjoyed being with her extended family.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11 AM with The Rev. Dr. Michael G. Queen officiating. Interment will follow in Giles Cemetery in Airlie Gardens. Pallbearers include Albert Corbett, Ted Davis, Jr., Edward Corbett, Grant Hatch, Scott Corbett, and Donnie Horton. Honorary pallbearers are Louie Burney, Ted Davis, Sr., and Bill Hensley.
