Mrs. Gertrude C. Mattis, age 78 years, South Market Street, town, wife of Isaac W. Mattis, died in a Harrisburg hospital Wednesday morning.
Mrs. Mattis was a daughter of the late William and Catharine (Tobias) Bowman, and was born in Jackson Township, August 19, 1876. She had been a resident of this community most of her life and was a member of Trinity Evangelical United Brethren, and P. O. of A. lodge, town.
She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Ester Messersmith, Harrisburg; Catherine, Mrs. John Hoopert, Halifax; Ethel, Mrs. John Richter, Elizabethville ; and two sons, Homer Mattis, Millersburg, and Paul S. Mattis, Elizabethville.
Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Elvira Sweigard, of Halifax; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home, West Main Street, Sunday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. M. G. Sponsler, pastor of Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church, and Rev. W. Z. Artz, pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, town, will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Buffington Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 o'clock.
Members of the P.O.of A. lodge will conduct a memorial service at the Funeral Home Saturday evening at 8:45 o'clock.
