Dr Wayne Hatfield, a nephew of "Devil Anse" was shot and instantly killed by a boy named Blankenship, ten miles from Wharncliffe, Tuesday morning. Hatfield is a brother of Senator H D Hatfield, of McDowell county. He is survived by a wife and two children.
Later information is to the effect that Dr Hatfield was assassinated, while attending to his duties as a physician. He was shot in the back with a shot gun and had no warning whatsoever. He was not even armed and could not have defended himself had he been apprised of his danger.
