His obituary from two local papers:
Wills Point Chronicle - December 12, 1888: Died - Dec. 8th, at 7 o'clock p.m. in the 77th year of his age, after a lingering illness, D.L. Riley, or commonly known as Uncle Love Riley. He was one of the oldest citizens of our county, and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was the father of Mr. A.W. Riley, of this city. A proper obituary will appear at a proper time.
Canton Telephone - December 14, 1888: It grieves us to chronicle the death of grandpa Love Riley - one of our most honorable and oldest citizens. Just two weeks ago he lost his dwelling and its contents by fire. He was in his dotage and it is thought that the loss of his property was the cause of his sudden death. He was a good man, and did not have an enemy on earth that he knew of. The Telephone extends condolence to the heart
stricken relatives and friends. Our loss is his eternal gain in heaven.
