With no income to provide for them, the children were sent to state homes. From there, they were relocated to other homes or to the custody of good samaritans. Three of the children were eventually returned to their mother: Gladstone, Gladys & Catherine. Frances was adopted by the McDonald family.

Gladys Clevenger, another child of Kate Clevenger, will be taken to the Home of the Good Shepherd in Indianapolis."
