Pearlie was an avid genealogist and although she did little research she was instrumental in assisting me in defining our family. We never found the connection between her line of Basham's and the others related to Mattingly's but we both felt strongly that one existed. I do know that her grandfather was William A. Basham and that his wife was named Letitia on the 1880 census. In the home at that time were Mary F., John R., Henry J., Alemeda, and Clinton. I also know that William A. Basham's parents were Francis and Mary Basham and that his brother and sisters on the 1860 census were Josephine, Hester A., and John. At the time we were communicating Jeff was blind and Pearlie would read my letters to him and he would relate through her, memories of his life.

We have several connections between the Armes and Basham family.
