Even though her headstone is clearly inscribed Kate, her name has been entered as Rebecca Catherine, as several family researchers have requested.

She married Absalom Scarboro (whose surname has also been spelled Scarborough) on April 20, 1884 in Bryon County Georgia.

Kate's obituary appeared in the Friday, January 2, 1914 issue of The Statesboro News, Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia as follows:

"Death of Mrs. A. Scarboro

On Saturday night, at their home near Aaron station, death came as a relief to the sufferings of Mrs. Absalom Scarboro. Mrs. Scarboro had been in failing health for some time. She was brought to the sanitarium here for an operation a short time ago but the physicians found she was too weak to undergo the one that was necessary in her case. The funeral was held at Poplar Springs Baptist church on Sunday, where the interment was made. A large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives gathered to pay their respects to the memory of this good woman. The many friends of the grief stricken husband and family extend to them their sincere sympathy."
