Bertha V. George, 67, former Thorp resident and Kittitas County Mother of the Year in 1958, died Tuesday, November 5 in Overlake Memorial Hospital, Bellevue. She was born June 2, 1901 in Ellensburg and was married here to Emil George on June 22, 1922. They made their home in the Denmark District until moving to Thorp in 1932.
Mrs. George attended Central Washington State College before her marriage and returned to finish her college studies following the death of her husband in 1956. She had resided in the past eight years in Bellevue, where she taught in the Stevenson Elementary School. She was a member of the Christian Church in Bellevue and the Washington Education Association.
Surviving are five sons, Ben George, Thorp, Dr. Phillip George, Cheney, Donald George, Yakima, Keith and Williard George, both of Bellevue; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Robert Alley, Ellensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday in Evenson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Albert Sweet officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery. The family suggests that those wishing to send memorials may send them to the Alumni Scholarship Fund, care of Gary Hall, Alumni Office, Central Washington State College.
