Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Aledo Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Mercer County VFW Post 1571. There is no visitation. He was born July 29, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, Ky., a son of William Sherman and Ella Boyd McKinney. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1942 and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He married Helen M. Sperry March 7, 1948, in Milan.
He farmed in Mercer Township from 1948, until retiring in 1989. He was then employed in the road department of Mercer Township for nine years.
He was a lifetime member of Mercer County VFW Post 1571 and enjoyed working in his shop at home.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a brother and sister-in -law, Dan "Skinner" and Donna McKinney, Moline; nieces, nephews and family friend David Johnson of Oquawka. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sylvester; and sisters, Georgia Shaw and Margaret Guy.
