Missing since the Pearl Harbor attack December 7, Charles R. "Bob" Taylor, 23, has been listed as dead, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Taylor were informed by the war department Thursday. He was in the U.S. Marines and had had 20 months service.
The father is a veteran of World War I; another son, Eugene E. Taylor is a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and the third boy, Harold, 19, enlisted in the Army at Fort Sill Tuesday.

Memorial Held For First War Victim
Carnegie people assembled at the highschool auditorium Sunday afternoon to pay respects to their first boy to give his life in the present war.
Impressive memorial services were conducted for Charles Robert (Bob) Taylor, Private First Class U.S. Marines, who lost his life aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma in Pearl Harbor December 7. He was 23 years old and had been in service almost two years. He enlisted from Carnegie where he had attended college. He was a member of the Methodist church here and of the Carnegie Masonic lodge. The memorial service was conducted under auspices of the American Legion.
Relatives from out of town who attended included: Mrs. C.A. Stinson, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Stinson and son, Robert, Miss Jean Stinson and Mrs. Paul Nighswonger from Viola, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. George Taylor and daughters, Carolyn and Marilyn from Salina, Kans., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Smith and daughter, Betty Zoe, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Smiley, Mr. and Mrs. Thermon Tunstell and Dr. L.E. Emanuel from Chickasha.

Suggested edit: The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that U.S. Marine Corps Private First Class Charles R. Taylor, 26 [son of William F Taylor (1892–1965) & Ellen Taylor (1895–1973)], killed during World War II, was accounted for on July 26, 2021.

On Dec. 7, 1941, Taylor was assigned to the battleship USS Oklahoma (BB-37), which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The USS Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen, including Taylor.
